Sunlight and Color

For most of her life Teri Starkweather has loved to paint. She discovered her passion in high school and went on to study at Art

Center College of Design and Atlanta College of Art, receiving a BFA and teaching credential.

Because of chemical sensitivities she avoided oils after art school and concentrated on watercolor. She found success selling her watercolors. Many of her watercolors have been published in the North Light Splash series. Her watercolors have appeared on the covers of magazines and the art book Textures and Surfaces. John Singer Sargent and Anders Zorn are major influences because they also painted in watercolors and oils during their lifetimes.

Eventually Starkweather took up plein air painting in oils when she discovered she could now tolerate them. Like her still life paintings, Starkweather’s landscapes are bathed in light and color. She went on a painters’ holiday to Provence, France, last year with a group that will be exhibit in the show Impressions of Provence from October 5 to 31 at Segil Fine Art in Old Town Monrovia, California.

Some of Starkweather’s favorite subjects to paint are the local beaches of California. She and her husband purchased a painter’s getaway this year in Laguna, where she goes to paint plein air. She will show some of her beach scenes in Glorious California, November 2 to December 21, at La Galeria Gitana in San Fernado.

Starkweather also is represented by LuminArté Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
