She has also studied oil painting at California Art Institute in Westlake, California and with Jeremy Lipking in his studio figure painting classes for three years. Teri Starkweather became known for her watercolor stll lifes after she graduated from art school and she painted watercolors almost exclusively for about ten years. Her work was published in many watercolor books and she won many awards. After overcoming some allergies to the mediums and turpentine used in oil painting, Teri studied oils and began marketing her oil paintings.
