Teri Starkweather studied painting and design at Art Center College of Design , Pasadena, California. She earned a BFA at Atlanta College of Art and a masters in art education at Cal State Northridge. She has also studied oil painting at California Art Institute in Westlake, California and with Jeremy Lipking in his studio figure painting classes for three years. She has worked in the past as an art teacher of Painting, Drawing, and Computer Graphics in high schools. Now she paints full time in her studio which is located in a suburb of Los Angeles.
Teri Starkweather became known for her watercolor stll lifes after she graduated from art school and she painted watercolors almost exclusively for about ten years. Her work was published in many watercolor books and she won many awards. After overcoming some allergies to the mediums and turpentine used in oil painting, Teri studied oils again and began marketing her oil paintings.
Starkweather 's still life watercolors are studies in window light which take about three weeks to complete. When working with flowers, she sets up her still life and photographs it first to capture the look of the flowers while they are fresh. One of her paintings is currently on the cover of the summer issue of Watercolor Magazine 2010.
Starkweather is currently working on painting figurative paintings in oil. She has done many of these based on photos taken in Italy and France. Starkweather especially enjoys working on these compositions and plans to do more based on life in Los Angeles.
